BUCK collaborated with Meta and Dior to craft six dazzling AR experiences for Dior’s holiday campaign, transforming shopping spaces and living rooms around the globe into celestial dream worlds.

L'atelier des Reves, Paris

Dior transformed a historic mansion in Parc Monceau into a luxury holiday pop-up gilt with art by Pietro Ruffo. BUCK created two site-specific AR experiences: Le Grand Salon and L'Espace Parfums.

In Le Grand Salon, an AR image target revealed an interactive AR version of Pietro Ruffo's dome set over a dining table elegantly set with Dior beauty products.

Upstairs in L'Espace Parfums, guests were surrounded by falling AR stars on theme with the twinkling light fixtures installed over Dior's scent collection.

Dior Holiday Complex, Seoul

At the same time and across the globe, Dior unveiled a pop-up complex in Seoul and BUCK contributed a dazzling AR journey around the store's layout.

Guests began in the Chandelier Room, where an interactive AR version of Pietro Ruffo's dome accented the room’s chandelier adorned with real J'Adore perfume bottles.

Next, the AR guided guests to Dinner de la Colle Noir, where the effect surrounded the oppulent scene with falling stardust that guests could capture a sparkling selfie with.

During development, BUCK tested at the LA and NY offices to in spaces laid out to mimic the spaces in Paris and Seoul. BUCK and Meta sent teams to both cities to oversee calibration and installation in the narrow timeframe between the completion of pop-up fabrication and grand openings. I traveled with the Paris team, feeling both thrilled to be in Paris and a bit of FOMO for missing out on the other location. Meta hired Carousel to document the process.

Dior Consteallations, Dior Beauty

Available to explore at Dior Beauty locations around the world, shoppers scanned the physical Dior star near the point of sale to launch the effect. Glowing orbs revealed seven different animated celesital figures from Pietro Ruffo’s artwork when selected.

BUCK designed this effect to seem site-specific to the Dior Beauty location a shopper is visiting, while also being generic enough to work in the physical lay out of every different Dior Beauty location, eliminating the need for on-site calibration. However, I would not have minded more international fieldtrips to Dior stores!

Dior Stars, Everywhere

Dior Stars allowed fans to immerse themselves in a night sky anywhere, like in my Paris hotel room. By using hand tracking and on-screen touch, users could transform Ruffo’s constellations into Dior products like Sauvage, J'Adore, and Miss Dior, spreading stars through gestures on their devices.

Dior provided product samples for reference, teaching us design terms like "necklace" for J'Adore's gold wire and "chicken feet" for Miss Dior's imprinted designs. Creating real-time assets for Dior's products was challenging, but BUCK's artists innovated new shader techniques to overcome the hurdles.
